after researching three different teen comedy from traditional to modern examples. i decided to combine the 3 trailer analysis of codes and conventions in terms of Cinematography, Sound, Mise en Scene, Sound and Editing to my production plan (trailer)

College:

I decided to use the idea of establishing shot of the college to

 College

Cinematography:

Long shot on the college to establish the setting-college. due to validate the location  to the audience, which the  narrative will involve within this  location. Mid and close up are used to introduce the characters to the audience. these are typical convention are used within teen comedy to relate the audience to the characters.

Mise en Scene:

High-lighting is used to produce humor; setting everyday life like social places such as clubs/ friends house, where certain humorous action will be produced by the character for the audience to laugh with or at  through the representation of nerd i.e. the school children and the popular people i.e. college pupils. Colours of the custom shows  the representation of characters such as the nerds are wearing blue, white casual clothes this connotes innocence and purity. where as the college pupils are wearing more sophisticated clothes to signify they are more mature.

Sound:

Starts with dialogues or voice over to immediately eneage the audience to the charater as they want to find more about the situation. slow tempo of music starts playing at the climax moment within the trailer to produce suspense within the audience mind that something mysterious is approaching like a new adventure. this relates to the everyday life this is a common  convention found within teen comedy.

Editing:

Initially,  slow pace  to create slow, clam atmosphere for the audience to engage  them to the narrative. this contradicts  as the end of trailer uses wipes, cuts and fade to build tension.

Mean Girls

 Mean Girls Trailer 2004

Cinematography:

Mid-shot, still close up have been used on the main character initially as the director wants the audience to connect with the character rather than the setting so a close up has been used to show the importance of her. this is a typical convention of teen comedy as all the humor will be produced by her through her actors performance, which the audience will be laughing at her or with her then long shot to establish the setting-college.

Sound:

Voice of over of protagonists used throughout the trailer in particular at the beginning to clafiy to the audience that the narrative will be told from her perspective.  the tempo of the music increases-well known pop music majorly used in teen comedy as the lyrics of the music informs the audience what is happening within the narrative e.g, when the trailer reaches to the climax of the narrative when her friend tries to win her ex back, which is the guy she. Therefore this produces an energetic and dramatic atmosphere for the audience to engage  towards the narrative. Background music and the voice over is used to create suspense  as the voice stops and still shot is used to show characters are forming a relationship through a close up but a neagtive relationship .

Mise en Scene:

Make up and custom change occurred  to the protagonists. for example, she starts wearing more fermine  clothes portray by the pink dress connotes femininity this tells the audience they are expecting love/ romance happening to the protagonist; typical convention of teen comedy 'a girl meets boy'.

Edting:

it beings with slow pace narrative common in teen comedy to engage and introduce the character and to the audience. however, the narrative pace increases towards the end of the trailer 'when the two girls try to win over the boy' also fades/ wipes/ cuts are used. Cuts are used to introduce the argument between the girls to the audience as well as fades and wipes are used to create suspense  in the audience mind like who will end up with the guy this also makes the audience compassion and emotional.
